Specialty Focus

My area of specialty focus is the treatment of sports related injuries, specifically involving the knee, shoulder, elbow, and ankle. I have undergone fellowship training beyond the normal orthopaedic residency in order to treat these injuries with the most current techniques. In addition, I have obtained subspecialty certification in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine from the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. While I specialize in the treatment of athletes and athletic injuries, certainly you do not have to be an athlete to see me. Many of these injuries may occur outside a sports setting but are often treated with the same state of the art techniques and rehabilitation.

Arthroscopic Surgery

Many injuries may now be treated with arthroscopic techniques. This involves using a small fiberoptic camera with smaller incisions, and in many cases may result in shorter recovery times. Many surgeries that in the past required overnight hospital stays may now be performed in outpatient surgery centers where you come in and go home a few hours later.

Specific Arthroscopic Procedures

Some of the arthroscopic procedures that I perform on an outpatient basis include knee arthroscopy for meniscal (cartilage) tears and ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) reconstruction, shoulder arthroscopy for rotator cuff tears and cartilage tears for instability (dislocated shoulder), ankle arthroscopy for ligament and cartilage injury, and elbow arthroscopy for removal of loose cartilage and bone fragments.

Other orthopaedic procedures

I also perform many other procedures that may be necessary as a result of chronic sports injuries or acute trauma such as total knee replacement, total shoulder replacement, carpal tunnel release, ulnar nerve transposition and fracture care (broken bones).

New Procedures

Some recent innovations in knee replacement involve minimally invasive (smaller incision) procedures that decrease pain and scarring and enhance rehabilitation. There are also new implants designed and shaped for the unique features of the female knee. I would be happy to discuss these new procedures and whether you may be a candidate for them.
